04 Communication & Collaboration (Master)

Description

This module introduces students to essential film terminology, the structure and purpose of the call sheet, crew responsibilities, interdepartmental communication, and the role of production vendors and rental houses. Students will learn how film-specific jargon—such as “apple box,” “crafty,” and “flying in”—facilitates quick, precise communication on set. Understanding this specialized language is crucial for Production Assistants, enabling them to work efficiently and safely in fast-paced environments.

The call sheet, the cornerstone of daily operations during Principal Photography, is broken down to highlight its importance in coordinating crew schedules, locations, and responsibilities. The module emphasizes the importance of knowing crew members’ roles and fostering strong communication, especially for Set PAs, who act as a bridge between Assistant Directors and the larger team.

Students will also explore how interdepartmental communication ensures seamless workflows and budget management, particularly between production offices and accounting teams. Additionally, the module covers the importance of vendor relationships and equipment logistics in supporting smooth production.
